ABSTRACT

Individuals with HIV/AIDS and their caregivers in developing countries often suffer from various pressures, such as availability of adequate medical care, lack of formal support, declining resources, social isolation, stigma, and lack of community support (D’Cruz, 2003; Kelley & Eberstadt, 2005). Due to such pressures, HIV/AIDS patients and their caregivers are vulnerable to experience mental health symptoms including traumatic stress (McCausland & Pakenham, 2003; Owens, 2003) and depression (Land & Hudson, 2004; Wight, Beals, Miller-Martines, Murphy, & Aneshensel, 2007). The challenge of disclosing information to family members becomes another source of stress (Kalichman, Austiry Luke, & DiFonzo, 2003).
