ABSTRACT
Suppose a researcher uses a test or scale with which you are very familiar. When he or she reports that the difference between the experimental and control groups is such-and-such a number of points, you will have a good idea of how large and important the difference is. However, very often you will not be familiar with the tests and instruments used in research. This makes it difficult to assess whether the difference is “large.”
