ABSTRACT

Content analysis is the study of recorded communication. Recorded communication is found in books, magazines and journals, newspapers and other print media; audio, video, and audiovisual recordings; and electronic images such as computer “bulletin boards.” If the research goal is to determine whether text in a specific type of book published in a certain time period makes sex-specific references to parental behaviors, all books or that time period would need to be examined for passages pertaining to this. As a method of data collection, an advantage of content analysis is unobtrusiveness that is, the ability to collect information without affecting the subjects being studied. The most common form of sexism in exclusively male performer videos is by far at Level I, down only 11% from the earlier period. Major change for female artists was a 52% decline in Level I videos.
