ABSTRACT
Each method of data collection has advantages and limitations. For example, participant observers are likely to influence the social processes being studied. Researchers sometimes use several carefully chosen methods in combination to reduce or eliminate many of the gaps in data collection associated with a single method. Another reason data collection strategies are combined is that the results from each method can be compared if the same types of information are collected by more than one method.
