ABSTRACT

Medication compliance is a critical element in the successful management of treatable diseases and symptoms. Noncompliance poses a serious health risk to those who are unable or unwilling to take their medica-

5 tions as prescribed, and certain populations may be at increased risk for the complications resulting from poor adherence to a medication regimen. Elderly individuals who live at home are such a population. It has been well documented that the compliance rate, in general,

10 for elderly individuals taking medications is problematic (Cargill, 1992; Kruse et al., 1992; Salzman, 1995).
