ABSTRACT

This chapter explores a variety of low-energy emotions that emerge in the context of sport. Here is the short list: anger, arrogance-hubris, depression, despair, envy, euphoria, guilt, joy, pain-suffering, pleasure, shame, and sadness. Why and how do these emotions emerge? What are some preventive measures that can be taken in the field and outside the field to minimize negative emotions? How can the sporting community deal with them so that the spirit of sport is sustained and elevated? These are some of the questions addressed here.
