ABSTRACT

This chapter explores corporate accountability for socio-economic rights and examines the general concept for corporate accountability for socio-economic rights. It analyzes levels of corporate accountability for socio-economic rights and five levels are victims’ access to justice in international law, domestic systems, internal corporate level, arbitration and bottom-up approaches. The chapter addresses some of the challenges in bringing claims against corporations in domestic fora. It provides itical analysis and assessment of concurrence of different forms, levels and actors of accountability by arguing for a holistic approach to corporate accountability for socio-economic rights. Victims often face challenges in accessing justice where they could enforce corporate accountability for corporate human rights violations. Corporate accountability refers to individuals’ access to justice for alleged corporate violations of socio-economic rights. Domestic judicial mechanisms are the first point of departure for victims enforcing corporate accountability for socio-economic rights.
