ABSTRACT

The process of quality definition is the first and most important quality task to be achieved in a project or programme. For projects, quality needs to be considered within two key focus areas: the project deliverables and the project management approach employed to manage the work. Quality can only be set if requirements are discussed and agreed with stake-holders before work commences. When checking requirements, a project manager must answer several questions. Any definition of quality needs to be set according to where quality can be found in the project, and where it can be measured. A good way to achieve quality objective visually is to produce a Quality Definition Map. The Cost, Time, Quality Triangle, a diagram developed many years ago by Martin Barnes of the Association for Project Management. Running a Quality Definition Workshop is an excellent way of gaining buy-in to the quality management process.
