ABSTRACT
In this chapter, I introduce the topic of the book and delimit its scope. I present the importance of mourning as a unique site for the study of continuities and shifts in narrative, affective, and identity forms in an age of media and social media sharing. I also sketch out the content of each of the chapters that follow and highlight the threads that connect them.
