ABSTRACT

Full operation of Response to Intervention (RtI) occurs when the system of RtI is embraced by staff, integrated into all classrooms with integrity and fidelity, and embedded within all practices. Effective instructional practices for RtI begin with Primary Level or core instruction in the general education classroom which sets the stage for identifying students who will be in need of Secondary and Tertiary Interventions. Many other evidenced-based approaches and strategies are extremely beneficial in the classroom, but these three are cornerstones for supporting RtI. Schools often struggle with ways to successfully implement Strategic and Intensive Interventions. With a standard protocol approach, students identified at risk in one academic area for secondary prevention are all provided the same, research validated interventions to improve performance. In the academic world, much of the documentation needed is contained in the assessment products schools use for universal screening and progress monitoring.
