ABSTRACT

In this book I have argued that the value of evidence for climate adaptation policymaking is determined not just (or even mostly) by its technical adequacy. For better or worse, evidence use is principally determined by how the values and political priorities attributed to or inscribed within this information align with the norms and priorities of the policymaking community. Evidence legitimacy, therefore, holds primacy over its technical credibility and instrumental salience for adaptation policymaking.
