ABSTRACT

The horrific events of September 11, 2001 changed many people's views of what constituted their world. Suddenly, we were focused on other countries in a way that we hadn't really been since World War II when most people felt the need to try and keep an eye on the entire world. Since then, with the growth of the Internet and the continued intertwining of social media and the news, people are much more in tune with what is happening worldwide. Every story that makes it onto the air needs to pass the 'who cares' test. What that means is after the story, do not want the listener or viewer to say 'who cares'. The authors have already established that unfortunately these topics make up the bulk of the stories in their newscasts. But there is always room for something fun or entertaining.
