ABSTRACT
This chapter explains the meaning of sport and differentiates sport from game. Additionally, the chapter also defines communication and describes various types and levels of communication that are relevant to the field of sport communication. Importantly, it shows how different cultures impact sport communication and helps us appreciate the meaning of an international approach to communication and sport. A section of the chapter also points to reasons why the study of communication and sport is important. There is also a section on various career paths in sport communication.
