ABSTRACT

The increasing interest in sport fiction justifies this chapter on sport fantasy and sport video games (SVGs). The chapter differentiates fantasy sport from SVGs and describes motivations to participate in each one and how each extends sport fandom. It describes in detail both communities for fantasy sport using a wrestling community and SVGs using FIFA 17 and notes the social impact of both sport fiction types. Importantly, the chapter notes the media’s role in publicizing both fantasy sport and SVGs and how the former has been legally defined as a skill-based game and the other increasingly recognized as a sport.
