ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the context of interpersonal communication and how that is associated with sport. The chapter points to several goals that people seek to accomplish during interpersonal communication and how different cultural backgrounds affect such communication. Important in chapter discussions is the presentation of self and the perception of the Other person. Two key elements that are also discussed in the chapter are issues of emotion and listening. The chapter presents interpersonal communication contexts of coach/parent, coach/athlete, and parent/athlete.
