ABSTRACT
Chapter 7 focuses on sport consumers or sport fans. A fan is differentiated from a spectator and there are brief descriptions of different types of sport fans. The chapter investigates fan behaviors, noting fan motivation, methods for sport consumption, and how they demonstrate identity while practicing certain rituals. The chapter also identifies how sporting organizations cultivate fan groups and provides an understanding of fan violence and dysfunctional fan behavior.
