ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a new set of exercises for coaching actors when working on productions that are non-traditionally staged in arenas, thrusts, allies, or site-specific productions. Actors have an obligation to the playwright, to deliver his or her words and ideas as clearly and accurately as possible. They have an obligation to the audience, not to waste their time but to share engaging, entertaining and meaningful productions. As actors they have obligations to the director, to collaborate with her or him to create the most expressive, most masterfully crafted interpretations of the text as possible. They have obligations to the designers to both showcase and utilize their designs to the best of our abilities. They have obligations to the producers, the theatre companies, the subscribers, the donors, the history of theatre, those who have come before them and even the very boards themselves.
