ABSTRACT

Individual governments provide aid and assistance to other nations through their own agencies as well. The United States government funds various projects and programs through the Agency for International Development (U.S. AID). Created in 1961, the agency makes non-military loans and grants to developing, third world nations. Its strategic objectives are to address severe economic problems, health, population planning, energy, and education. To accomplish these objectives it supports traditional aid programs, development of private enterprise, transfer of technology, long-range development planning, self-help programs, and private investment in development.
