ABSTRACT

A Pinwheel Office lfN MY next job I was as misplaced as this J1 would-be salesman, and so equally a failure. I was in charge of a clerical desk, where I was supposed to order engravings and printing, to track down deliveries and check up the bills of printers, engravers, and paper-makers. It required highly technical knowledge, some of which I had picked up with Merrill & Baker. What I knew was not enough for my new employers, the Hampton Advertising Agency. This company was functioning furiously then; its progress and brilliance dazzled the business world. That was in 1903. Yet modern young advertising men have never even heard of it. Twenty years is a long, long time in the advertising business.
