ABSTRACT

Reading with children plays a key role in teachers’ understanding of children’s reading development. The chapter addresses this in the context of one-to-one reading. It includes thoughts about the kinds of conversations that take place with readers, and what this might reveal about a child’s reading preferences in addition to their level of reading. Finally, the chapter considers the positive benefits of one-to-one reading at home with parents/carers in the context of home–school links.
