ABSTRACT
In England, the teaching of handwriting is still a statutory requirement of the National Curriculum (DfE, 2013). The development of a fluent, comfortable and legible handwriting style therefore helps children throughout their schooling, not least in exams. Basic principles of teaching handwriting are described in this chapter, along with suggestions for developing handwriting skills. We end with a section on handwriting problems.
