ABSTRACT
Assessment is one of the most challenging aspects of early years and primary education. It is also a fundamental part of any teacher’s role. In this chapter, we explore principles and processes that underpin how to assess learning in English, language and literacy across the modes of spoken language, reading and writing. We then discuss practices in summative and statutory assessment.
