ABSTRACT

Climate changes have impacts on water and food security in significant and uncertain ways. The impact of climate change on water and agriculture requires the distribution and extent of change in key variables that govern crop growth and water availability. While food and water security are largely determined by actions taken at the local and national levels, global factors, such as world food trade, global climate and climate change and competition for water also affect food and water security locally. The anticipated impacts of climate change are likely to fall predominantly on poor communities who are least able to cope- present as well as in future. Floods and droughts become more extreme and difficult to predict, climate change makes the achievement of water security more difficult. The increased variability of rainfall impacts growth potential and the costs of achieving water security. Water security is seen as a 'supply chain' issue in the private sector.
