ABSTRACT

Chapter 7: From interculturalism to cultural performance reviews the intercultural debates of the 1990s and 2000s, looking at the ways in which the work of the Third Theatre problematises and disrupts the binary divisions underpinning this scholarly discourse. The authors suggest that John Lowell Lewis’ (2013) re-elaboration of the notion of cultural performance can serve as a more fitting model that can better encapsulate the complex transnational poetics of the Third Theatre community.
