ABSTRACT

Chapter 8: Third Theatre: Embodiment, craft, (re)enchantment draws on current scholarly debates on embodiment in order to interrogate the ways in which the psychophysical practice at the heart of the theatre laboratory tradition has shaped Third Theatre. The authors trace the journey from exercise to training, the development of scores, the progression to montage and performance and finally the development of strategies for cultural action. They look at how performer training, dramaturgy and cultural action in Third Theatre serve an interstitial practice that allows for an enchanted embodiment to come to the fore, both for the performer and for the spectator/participant.
