ABSTRACT

Women who had entered businesses via different pathways (Chapter 5) varied in the types of education and training they received. Women who planned their businesses had more formal education, especially those in the Trades and Professions groups. The women who had not planned their business relied much more on job experience for skills needed in statt-up. Most women in the study had education, training and work experiences that helped them in statting and operating their businesses, but some had no relevant experience. When sta1ting their businesses, most women sought additional training and/or sources of information, outside help, and skill building beyond the formal educational process.
