ABSTRACT

Jorge Garcia is a 42-year-old man with a “bad back.” He has had two surgeries to correct this disability and can no longer return to work as a farm laborer. He is a third generation American who considers himself Hispanic and, after his two sons left home to join the military, he and wife have returned to speaking only Spanish. The intake interview was conducted in English, showing Mr. Garcia to have a fluent command of English. Mr. Garcia reports that he “has done a man’s job since I was 12 years old.”
