ABSTRACT

In late 1930s, India was undergoing a kind of political furor. Soon the Second World War began. The Indian National Congress put forth the demand for complete freedom of India, while the Muslim League began to raise the slogan for the establishment of a separate homeland – Pakistan – by dividing the country. But the question was how to split the country as the Congress was not ready for that. Nevertheless, all the concerned parties – Congress, Muslim League and the British government reached an agreement and India was eectively divided into two new dominions, India and Pakistan, with a number of issues remaining unsettled between the two independent nations.
