ABSTRACT

It is difficult to ascertain the ancient history of Agra city. Many names have been provided by historians. Generally it is stated that Ugrasena the ancestor of Lord Krishna had established this city. The legend is that Lord Vishnu reincarnated here as Parsuram. The first reference to Agra is found in the pages of a Muslim writer’s account written in 1134. Khawaja Masud, the writer, referred to a proverb that during the rule of the powerful King Kans, Agra was an important town. Later Kans transformed this place into a prison.
