ABSTRACT

Among the Mughal rulers Shahjahan was enthusiastic about architecture. At his durbar the princes and nobles used to present plans for buildings and constructing towns. Once a house was constructed Shahjahan was invited and he used to visit it, as he had done in case of the house of Dara Shukoh. After becoming emperor he began some modifications in the existing palaces. He put marbles instead of red stones in many places of the palace fort of Akbar. He made some changes in the Diwan-i Khas of Jahangir at Lahore. He constructed the Shah Buruz next to the Jharokha-i Darshan both at Agra and Lahore and constructed a forty-pillared hall in front of the Diwan-i Am.
