ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 explains the clear and explicit overlap between transportation strategy, employee engagement and sustainability. Upon completion of this chapter, readers will understand why it is important to engage employees in the sustainability journey and how to do so using transportation as the sustainability vehicle. Besides employee engagement, transportation naturally overlaps with energy efficiency and cost reduction, clean air and related health effects, reduction of supply chain and waste disposal costs, and other environmental, fiscal and social issues. As hospitals across the country embrace ambulatory and home healthcare models, the time is now ripe to incorporate sustainability into the transportation system. Improving transportation is directly related to improving health.
