ABSTRACT

The personal pronouns make a good place to begin an initiation into Cantonese grammar, since they are rather straightforward: they do not vary according to gender, case or social status. Nor are there any possessive forms as such, since the pronouns combine with the possessive ge 嘅 to indicate possession (see Unit 5). The plural forms are produced in regular fashion by adding the suffix -deih 哋 to the corresponding singular forms.
