ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about something different from merely positioning oneself for competitive advantage. To be sure, others can be used competitively and, for instance, the Marketect on market strategies could easily be classed as competitive rather than market restructuring. Knight's Move, Streets Ahead and Stitch in Time – are proactive in nature and strategies that create an initiative and an initial advantage. The Knight's Move is a classic of military strategy and a very well tried and trusted strategy in business. The Knight's Move strategy requires: A concentration of power. The Fast Follower strategy is one of imitation. A pure imitation strategy will be hard to pull off, even if the Fast Follower has dominant strength in marketing. Rate of gain of market share, relative to other potential Fast Followers, shows reader how successfully they are acquiring new or existing customers.
