ABSTRACT

Diagnosed with pernicious anemia, Rose had been maintained on a regimen of eating raw liver for much of the last decade and a half of her life. Was there a correlation between her early life traumas and her health in adulthood? Faced with patient stories of childhood adversity, Dr. Vincent Felitti and his colleagues undertook The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study, concluding that adverse childhood experiences led to an array of diseases in adulthood. From Rose’s reconstructed history, the author speculated how she might have answered the ACE questions.
