ABSTRACT

As a participant observer, the author concluded that he need no longer be stuck reproducing the past; he would act in the present, free from the abulia, stasis, enmeshment and dependency that plagued the family. From being third generation he became first, conscious of the complexity of what he and his wife pass on to subsequent offspring. New family narratives should be told and passed on with honesty, integrity and courage. On the micro-scale of the family and the macro-scale of society, the tools of recovery from trauma and its prevention should be available universally.
