ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the effect of the programme on individuals, and emphases the impact on the whole system. That was an aspect that had become more apparent during the later years at Woodhaven, when there was more comprehensive involvement from the nursing staff, in particular, in delivery of the groups and in supporting individuals in using the skills, both on the wards and under the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment (CRHT). Developing a whole-service model of crisis management by integrating the emotion-focused formulation to, first, enable service users to understand the crisis and develop a shared care plan, with shared responsibilities with the team, of ways to cope with emotional distress. Second, for teams involved with the service user to use this as a team formulation/shared understanding in team supervision. Finally, for the whole system to learn from and integrate psychologically informed care, which provides containment, understanding and compassionate care in high-risk environments.
