ABSTRACT

The facilitators can emphasize that twelve-session group course provides a toolbox for the lifelong work of breaking the vicious circles identified in the formulation diagram. It is likely to be unrealistic to expect to have achieved that by the end of the group sessions. This chapter introduces next four sessions: Session 5: Your relationship with yourself; Session 6: Your relationship with yourself ; Session 7: Building a new relationship to the past; and Session 8: Using anger positively — Anger and the past. There is no assumption that past issues in general are to be shared in the group, as the emphasis is on effecting change in the present as a way of breaking the hold of the past. Mindfulness of an emotion, with a suggestion that any relevance of the emotion to the past be noticed, is introduced at this point in order to illustrate how this might be achieved.
