ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how to create the habit of good communication within school, by engaging with local community, parents, teachers, students and the local media. It covers the important element of reviewing and recognising progress. Have school community days where groups from the local community are invited to see school events, such as senior citizen groups who could come and see a special performance of school nativity. School leaders will potentially also benefit from some good local media coverage and they can promote this 'good citizen' work on website or in social media. Introduce them to students to hear what it is like at the school and let them better understand direction and dreams for how the school can flourish. Students should have a voice in the running of school. The chapter presents some suggestions for how school leaders can involve them and keep good communication habits going.
