ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at what could be holding school leaders back from being successful, in terms of communication. Once they know their obstacles, they can take action to address the issues and move forward. The issues that they face will be common across many schools, so by addressing them school leaders will be able to get ahead of others and unlock the power of communication to drive success. School communication budgets are often focused on external marketing activities, such as advertising, websites, sponsorship or events. By having a clear set of communication goals, as part of school leader's plan, to address real problems, and by delivering a set of activities over the short, medium and long term, they will see the results they need to be on their journey to outstanding communication. Listening is also key in school leader's relationship with parents and is something that is not always done well.
