ABSTRACT
The main elements of Wolof social organization are their conception of descent, which may be traced either patrilineally or matrilineally; a hierarchical system of social classes, the major social strata being, with minor exceptions, endogamous; and a high degree of mobility, Wolof men often changing their place of residence. Age grouping is of limited importance.
