ABSTRACT

As a couple goes through infidelity treatment, it becomes apparent that couples can often use some help redefining their relationships. Infidelity has a way of making couples feel broken and lost in the world. Clinicians can help with this sense of loss. For example, many couples will be more stressed around certain dates associated with the infidelity, such as a birthday or a holiday. Clinicians can reframe these future dates as opportunities for the couple to re-experience these times in a fuller, more complete way. Going forward, when these significant dates come up, the couple can agree to make these dates special again for their relationship. In this chapter, Angela Skurtu teaches clinicians how to develop a more positive narrative for the couple as they move on and build resilience.
