ABSTRACT

Vyshnegradskii suffered a stroke in 1892. I was very sorry for him, for I had worked closely with him for many years. As minister of ways and communications I was on the best of terms with him although I disagreed with him, on a number of matters. One was the Siberian Railroad. In accordance with my instructions from the Emperor, I was trying to complete it as quickly as possible, while he, although unable to oppose me openly, hampered my efforts by not providing me with the necessary funds.
