ABSTRACT
I have already spoken of Emperor Alexander III’s great and noble personality. It is a great pity that his reign was so short, only thirteen years. Yet, although he came to the throne unprepared for his task, he matured fully as a sovereign during those brief years. All Russia and the rest of the world recognized this fact on the day of his death. Unfortunately, he was not fully appreciated either by his contemporaries or by the succeeding generation.
