ABSTRACT
Those who believe in omens can find one in an event that occurred at the Winter Palace on the last Easter Sunday before the Emperor’s death. As usual on Easter Sunday there was an Imperial procession (vykhod) at the palace. Just as the Emperor and Empress left their quarters, to begin the procession, the electricity went off in most of the palace, forcing us to use candles and kerosene lamps for illumination.
