ABSTRACT
During 1897 Emperor Nicholas received a number of visiting dignitaries, some of whom were returning visits he had made to them. The visit of Emperor Francis Joseph, in April, was not marked by any significant occurrences, nor was that of the King of Siam, in June. However, the visit of Emperor William II, in July, was marked by one event that was to have great significance for our future in the Far East.
