ABSTRACT
The year 1900 was a turning point in the history of America and in the story of the women’s garment workers. That year marked the formal opening of what came to be called the American Century. The same year marked the formal founding of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, which was to enjoy a continuous existence right down to the closing years of the century.
