ABSTRACT
In the saga of the garment workers union, the Uprising of the Twenty Thousand (1909) is coupled with the Great Revolt (1910). The former was a strike of the women shirtwaistmakers; the latter of the male cloakmakers. The “uprising” involved an estimated 20,000; the “revolt” an estimated 60,000.
