ABSTRACT
A fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Company on March 25, 1911, claimed the lives of 146 workers. The flames that consumed the bodies of the victims cast an eerie yet revealing light on the inhuman and intolerable conditions in the garment industry. In the aftermath of the inferno came the public outcry: “They shall not die in vain.”
