ABSTRACT
Although certainly not as dark as William Shakespeare’s ‘lost years’, theperiod after Henry Neville returned from his continental sojourn with Henry Savile and several other Merton students is not especially well-documented. In particular, we can only surmise how Neville became ‘William Shakespeare’. Nevertheless, although only supposition, some aspects of this process seem fairly clear.
