Canadians Connected and Unplugged

This chapter focuses on Canadian public interest in, and access to, the Internet. The first section provides an overview of the federal government’s role in creating an information society. Section two discusses inequalities arising out of the information society, or what is commonly referred to as the digital divide. The final section examines two government programs that provide public access to the Internet as a bridging solution for the digital divide.
